Democratic mega-donor Reid Hoffman gives $250k to Nikki Haley super PAC
Billionaire tech entrepreneur Reid Hoffman recently gave a $250,000 donation to a super PAC supporting Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley.
Dmitri Mehlhorn, a political adviser to Hoffman, confirmed the contribution to SFA Fund Inc. with The Hill. The New York Times first reported the donation.
The hefty donation to the GOP White House hopeful is particularly notable as Hoffman is an open supporter of President Biden, who is running for reelection. Hoffman, the billionaire co-founder of LinkedIn, co-hosted a campaign fundraiser for Biden in San Francisco back in June.
The Times reported that Hoffman’s political team asked the pro-Haley super PAC whether it would take money from the pro-Biden donor, and that SFA Fund Inc. had agreed.
Hoffman funded writer E. Jean Carroll’s rape case against former President Trump and backed Hillary Clinton in her presidential bid against Trump in 2016.
The move comes on the heels of JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon encouraging Democrats to help Haley to “get a choice, on the Republican side, that might be better than Trump.” Trump blasted Dimon for the remarks.
Haley has built up momentum over the last several months, threatening Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s second-place status among the Republican presidential field led by Trump as the race heads toward the start of voting in January.
She and DeSantis are jostling with other candidates to get closer to Trump and close the gap between first and second as the early states begin to weigh in.
The Hill has reached out to SFA Fund Inc. and the Haley campaign for comment.
