Nunes says he will soon send 8 criminal referrals to Barr
Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, said Sunday that he is preparing to send eight criminal referrals to Attorney General William Barr.
“We couldn’t really send these criminal referrals over without an attorney general in place. So we are prepared this week to notify the attorney general that we are prepared to send those referrals over and brief him if he wishes to be briefed,” he said during an interview on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures.”
{mosads}”We think they’re pretty clear, but as of right now this is, this may not be all of them, but this cleans up quite a bit. We have eight referrals that we are prepared to send over to the attorney general this week,” Nunes added.
Nunes did not say who the referrals are for but said five of them are for crimes that include lying to Congress, misleading Congress and leaking classified information.
The other three referrals, he said, are “complicated.” He referred to them as “conspiracy” referrals and said the individuals are being referred for crimes that include lying to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court and “manipulating intelligence.”
Nunes’s staff last year authored a memo accusing the FBI and the Department of Justice of abusing the FISA court to obtain a warrant on former Trump campaign staffer Carter Page.
