Election analyst Henry Olsen told Hill.TV on Monday that President Trump, unlike most Republicans, has mastered attracting small-dollar donations.
“If the president wants to raise small-dollar donations, which is something no Republican has ever really mastered, this is a guy who can get a lot of them,” Olsen, a Washington Post columnist, told host Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”
President Trump’s reelection campaign raised more than $30 million in the first quarter of 2019, more than the combined fundraising hauls from Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), two other 2020 hopefuls.
The Trump campaign told The Associated Press that nearly 99 percent of the donations it received were of $200 or less. The average donation was about $34.
The campaign’s first-quarter fundraising haul brings its cash on hand to more than $40 million.
