Begala: Republican fat cats ‘gawk’ at Palin

Paul Begala’s latest DCCC fundraising email has a few zingers.

First, Begala stumbles across a convenient acronym to portray the GOP as the party of white men:

A year ago if you’d told me Rush, Newt and Cheney would be the new faces of the Republican National Committee, I’d have asked what you were smoking. [emphasis in the original]

ZING!

But then Begala moves into more dangerous territory, implying GOPers came to a recent fundraiser to ogle Sarah Palin:

Seriously, just last week 2,000 Republican fat cats gathered in Washington to gawk at Sarah Palin and listen to Newt Gingrich call President Obama a failure. And, they ponied up millions of dollars to fuel unrelenting attacks by Republican retreads on President Obama and his efforts to get America back on track.

I don’t know–after watching the Letterman-Palin feud explode, I’d steer clear of controversial Palin jokes.

A year ago if you’d told me Rush, Newt and Cheney would be the new faces of the Republican National Committee, I’d have asked what you were smoking.

But, then again if you’d told me the Republican Party would raise over $14 million in one night in a hotel ballroom in Washington, D.C. I would have asked if you had some more to share.
