Whoopi Goldberg begs Cheney to stop Trump: ‘Run Liz Run’

Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of ABC’s “The View,” implored former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wy.) to run for president during the Republican’s first-ever appearance on the show on Wednesday.

“We probably don’t agree on a lot of stuff but we agree on the fact that we have a lot of respect for the country,” Goldberg told Cheney. “Do you see yourself, and would you ever consider being the conduit to that third party because I don’t know the Republican party, as we knew it, will survive this.”

Goldberg continued, “Would you consider, please would you, consider being that person?”

The comedian finished her question by saying, “I’m begging you. I’m down on one knee.”

Cheney, a leading critic of former President Trump, said earlier in the interview she hasn’t ruled out a run for president in the future and “hasn’t made a decision.”

“But I think it’s really important this election cycle, everyone has to go vote,” Cheney added. “You’ve got to be willing to say I’m not going to vote for the candidate who is from the party I belong to, I’m going to vote for the candidate who I trust to protect the constitution.”

Cheney, the former vice chair of the House select committee on the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, has been doing a series of media interviews in recent weeks to promote her recent memoir, in which she warns of what she says is the danger Trump and his enablers pose to democracy.
