Trump rips Krugman, NYT after columnist writes GOP no longer believes in American values

President Trump on Tuesday blasted New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, as well as the newspaper itself, accusing the liberal opinion writer and economist of being “obsessed with hatred” of his administration.

In a pair of tweets, Trump ripped Krugman for what he called “false and highly inaccurate writings” following Krugman’s most recent column, which said Republicans no longer support American values.

He said Market would crash, Only Record Highs!”

“I wonder if the New York Times will apologize to me a second time, as they did after the 2016 Election,” Trump continued. “But this one will have to be a far bigger & better apology. On this one they will have to get down on their knees & beg for forgiveness—they are truly the Enemy of the People!”

Trump’s criticism followed Krugman’s accusation that the president and his campaign “welcomed” Russian assistance during the 2016 election, a reference to findings in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report that determined Russian operatives interfered in the 2016 election with the intent of supporting Trump’s candidacy.

“A hostile foreign power intervened in the presidential election, hoping to install Donald Trump in the White House. The Trump campaign was aware of this intervention and welcomed it. And once in power, Trump tried to block any inquiry into what happened,” Krugman wrote.

Krugman has been a regular critic of the president since his election, and late that year he declared that Trump’s election had been “tainted” by former FBI Director James Comey’s investigation into the emails of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton — the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee — as well as Russian interference efforts, resulting in an “illegitimate” election.
