Media reacts to battle of Winterfell on ‘Game of Thrones’: ‘What did I just watch?!’

Members of the media are among those weighing in on the latest “Game of Thrones” episode in the hit HBO series’ final season.

Reactions to the highly anticipated battle of Winterfell, which was said to include the longest battle scene filmed for television, ranged from confusion and complaints about scenes being too dark to major major accolades for the 82-minute episode.

Sunday’s episode is expected to be the most-watched in the HBO program’s eight-year history. The season premiere on April 14 attracted 17.4 million viewers to the pay-for channel, with millions more watching the premiere on DVR, repeats and streaming.

The battle of Winterfell centered on a fight between the living and the dead, a confrontation that has been building since the show launched in 2011.

The battle occurred at night, making several scenes difficult to decipher who was being killed during the bloody battle. That aspect was the most talked about on social media on Sunday night while the show and several of its characters were top trending topics on Twitter.
