Hillary Clinton: Trump ‘obstructed justice’ in Mueller’s investigation
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton weighed in on the findings of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report during an appearance in Las Vegas over the weekend, saying Trump obstructed justice by trying to impede the investigation.
“This president obstructed justice,” she said Sunday, according to the Las Vegas Sun. “He tried to interfere with that investigation.”
Appearing alongside her husband, former President Bill Clinton, in Las Vegas for an appearance on their speaking tour, Hillary Clinton spoke about Mueller’s investigation into Russian election interference and how she thinks Attorney General William Barr has handled the final report.
{mosads}“I think that we saw very clearly when Barr testified that he has assumed the role of the president’s defense attorney, not the attorney general for the entire country, and I think that is incredibly dangerous,” the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee said of Barr’s testimony last week before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
She added that Barr “said many things that I thought were untrue — legally untrue.”
Clinton said late last month that she believes Trump would have been indicted had he not been the sitting president.
Since the report’s completion and public release with some redactions, Trump has frequently pointed out that it found “no collusion and no obstruction.”
Mueller did not uncover evidence to conclude that collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow took place in the lead up to the 2016 election, though the report does note that Mueller was unable to “conclusively determine” that no criminal conduct occurred in regards to obstruction of justice.
The report also cited several possible instances of obstruction of justice that the special counsel investigated, noting that the report “does not exonerate him,” referring to Trump.
Clinton lost the 2016 election to Trump, a fact the president frequently points out when criticized by his former opponent.
