Donny Deutsch new MSNBC show finishes second in cable news debut
Donny Deutsch’s new MSNBC show came in second among cable networks with its debut episode Saturday night, drawing 919,000 total viewers.
“Saturday Night Politics” drew 99,000 viewers in the key 25- to 54-year-old demographic that advertisers covet most at 8 p.m. on Saturday, according to Nielsen Media Research.
{mosads}Deutsch’s first show featured South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, a Democratic presidential candidate who has surged in most polls over the past month after being relatively unknown on the national scene.
Fox News Channel’s “Watters World” finished first in the 8:00 p.m. time slot, nearly doubling Deutsch with 1.7 million total viewers and 244,000 in the 25-54 demographic.
Still, “Saturday Night Politics” easily finished second, topping “CNN Newsroom,” which delivered just 391,000 total viewers and 70,000 in the 25–54 demographic.
Deutsch, a prominent advertising executive and NBC News and MSNBC contributor, is most often seen on the network’s “Morning Joe” with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski.
MSNBC, Fox News and CNN have all expanded live programming into the weekends.
