Pennsylvania governor honors ‘Mister Rogers’ with ‘1-4-3 Day’

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf (D) honored Fred Rogers, the late host of the beloved kids’ television series “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” with a statewide holiday.

The governor in a tweet on Thursday declared May 23 to be “1-4-3 Day” in honor of the beloved television personality. “143” is code for “I love you,” which Rogers, who was from Pennsylvania, regularly used.

Wolf called the holiday Pennsylvania’s “first statewide day of kindness.” 

“As governor, I’ve met countless Pennsylvanians,” the governor said. “And I know we’re genuinely nice people. Join me in spreading love today and seeing just how far a little kindness can go.”

An announcement from the state’s website encouraged residents to “share the acts of kindness and good deeds they do for each other” in honor of Rogers for 1-4-3 Day.

“This way, we can all reflect on how grateful we are to have each other. So let’s get out and make someone feel the love,” the announcement added.
