Trump account mocked over pushback to Meghan Markle ‘nasty’ reports
An official Twitter account for President Trump’s reelection campaign was mocked on Saturday after it pushed back on reports that Trump had said Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, made “nasty” comments about him.
The account, which its bio says is meant to promote pro-Trump messages and combat “fake news,” went after CNN on Saturday and claimed the network falsely misrepresented Trump’s comments about the member of the British royal family.
“Here is what he actually said. Listen for yourself!” the account tweeted along with a captioned video.{mosads}
Speaking to British tabloid The Sun ahead of his state visit to the United Kingdom, Trump said he was not aware that Markle had called him “divisive” and “misogynistic” during his 2016 presidential campaign.
“I didn’t know that. What can I say?” he told the paper. “I didn’t know that she was nasty.”

REPORTER: She said she’d move to Canada if you got elected. It turned out she moved to Britain.
TRUMP: There are a lot of people moving here [to the U.S.] So what can I say? No, I didn’t know that she was nasty.

FAKE NEWS is truly the ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!

The president then added in the interview that he hopes Markle, an American-born actress, will succeed as a member of the royal family.
“She will be very good,” he said.
Twitter users, including several journalists, were quick to point out that the video does validate reports that Trump used the term “nasty.”
This is a huge self own if I’ve ever seen one. pic.twitter.com/cIv7dxi5gf

He actually calls her “nasty” in this audio. That is the exact word he uses. Who is running that war room? George Orwell? https://t.co/6X5Dl979oI

TFW when the quote you’re denying is in the audio you’re tweeting. https://t.co/iFu4IqaRys

“No I didn’t know that she was nasty,” POTUS says about Meghan Markle in the clip after the interviewer told him that in 2016 she’d threatened to leave the US if he was elected. https://t.co/ufduNAppCr

Hard to imagine a more explicit example of gaslighting than this.
Trump’s “war room” tweets audio of Trump saying Markle was nasty, with subtitles showing he said she was nasty, while denying that he said she was nasty.

I mean, this is an … interesting effort to disprove the claim that he called her “nasty” pic.twitter.com/YfDUjBBcmP

Ummm, try again. He uses the word nasty in this video in reference to her.

I mean, for a guy who stated ‘I know words. I have the best words’ it sure does take an army of people to explain what he meant by the wrong words that he said.

Trump is slated to meet with a number of members of the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles, during his visit to the U.K. next week.
Markle’s husband, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, will reportedly join Trump for a private lunch, as will Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton.
But Markle, who recently gave birth to a baby boy named Archie, will be on maternity leave during the visit.
