Taylor Swift thanks Cory Booker for signing Equality Act petition
Taylor Swift celebrated Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Cory Booker’s (D-N.J.) support for the Equality Act on Tuesday, urging her fans to “Be like Cory” and back the bill.
The pop star wrote on her Instagram story that Booker had signed her Change.org position declaring support for the bill, which passed the House in May and would enshrine protections for LGBTQ Americans in federal law.
“Senator Booker signed the petition for the Equality Act!!! Be like Cory,” Swift urged her fans in a caption on the story, which featured a picture of Booker’s statement announcing his signature of the petition.

Booker is one of several 2020 Democratic candidates who has announced support for the act, including Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.).{mosads}
Swift, who has remained famously aloof from politics, jumped into the fight over the bill’s passage earlier this month with an open letter to her home-state senator, Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), urging him to support the legislation.
“I personally reject the President’s stance that his administration, ‘supports equal treatment of all,’ but that the Equality Act, ‘in its current form is filled with poison pills that threaten to undermine parental and conscience rights,’ ” Swift wrote in the letter.
“No. One cannot take the position that one supports a community, while condemning it in the next breath as going against ‘conscience’ or ‘parental rights,’ ” she said at the time.
