DC distillery invites US women’s soccer team for tasting: ‘Skip the White House’

A Washington, D.C., distillery is inviting the U.S. women’s soccer team to “skip the White House” and take a tour after the squad’s second consecutive World Cup victory.

Republic Restoratives, which noted that it was a “women-owned, LGBTQ-owned” company, issued the public invitation on Instagram.

“Hey, @USWNT, can we make you a cocktail? Come to DC, skip the White House, let us help you keep the party going,” the invitation reads.

Pia Carusone, the distillery’s owner, said in the post that she supports star Megan Rapinoe’s decision not to visit the White House but assured the team that “the District has much more to offer.”

“We would be proud to facilitate a toast in honor of your triumphant achievements,” Carusone wrote. “Thank you for inspiring the nation, and world, with your grit and bravery.”

Although it’s unclear if the team will visit the White House under President Trump, a trip they made after their last World Cup win during the Obama administration, players may still head to D.C.

Democratic leaders invited the team to the Capitol this week in honor of their victory. Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) had previously extended an invitation after Trump and Rapinoe engaged in a war of words.

The team celebrated in New York City on Wednesday with a ticker tape parade.
