A 37-year-old Mexican man has reportedly died while in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the eighth death of an immigrant in ICE custody so far in fiscal 2019.

BuzzFeed News reported Wednesday that the man was taken from the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility in Woodstock, Ill., to a local hospital, where he died Tuesday. The cause of his death was not immediately released.

The unidentified man had reportedly been in U.S. custody since Sept. 3 and was facing an upcoming deportation hearing.

His death is the eighth so far this fiscal year, and followed the death of a 44-year-old man in ICE custody in July from multiple organ failure. ICE authorities at the time said the man, Pedro Arriago-Santoya, was taken to a local hospital “promptly” after complaining about stomach pains.

“Fatalities in ICE custody, statistically, are exceedingly rare and occur at a small fraction of the rate of the U.S. detained population as a whole,” ICE said at the time.
