A Los Angeles man was arrested Sunday after breaking into the home of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) while people were home, according to local police and the mayor’s office.

Ephraim Matthew Hunter, 29, smashed a window around 6:40 a.m. on Sunday to gain entry into the Getty House, Bass’s official residence on Irving Boulevard, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said.

Police responded and took Hunter into custody without incident. He was booked on accusations of burglary.

No injuries were reported in the alleged break-in, both Bass’s office and police confirmed.

“This morning at about 6:40 AM, an intruder broke into Getty House through a window. Mayor Bass and her family were not injured and are safe. The Mayor is grateful to LAPD for responding and arresting the suspect,” Bass’s office said in a statement Sunday.

The investigation is ongoing, and police declined to provide additional details on a potential motive.

Bass became Los Angeles’s first female mayor in 2022, after previously serving more than a decade in the U.S. House.
