Klobuchar: Investigation into Kavanaugh ‘a sham’

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) called the FBI investigation into Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh following allegations of sexual assault “a sham.”

The presidential candidate told ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday that before she could consider pushing for Kavanaugh’s impeachment, she would need to examine the investigation documents.

“I think the whole thing was a sham and that those documents need to be turned over as well as the documents that the White House hid from his time in the White House counsel’s office,” she told George Stephanopoulos. “All of that needs to come forward to even look at a proceeding like that.”

Klobuchar said the documents shown to senators were not organized well.

“It was a mix, not triaged, nutty calls to a tip line mixed in with actual calls from people that seemed to have information,” she said.

Klobuchar advocated for the attorney general to release the documents so the House could see them.

The Minnesota senator said she has made her views on Kavanaugh “very clear.”

“I strongly opposed him based on his views on executive power, which will continue to haunt our country, as well as how he behaved, including the allegations that we are hearing more about today,” she said.

The New York Times reported Saturday that a male classmate of Kavanaugh’s saw the justice press his genitals against a woman without her consent. The newspaper found this allegation was not investigated by the FBI.

Kavanaugh has denied all of the allegations he has faced, calling them politically motivated, and he declined to answer questions about the new allegations to the Times on Saturday.

Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro has called for the impeachment of the Supreme Court justice following the revelations from The New York Times report.

President Trump jumped to the defense of the justice he nominated, blaming Democrats and the media for stirring up impeachments talk for Kavanaugh.
