Biden to deliver commencement addresses at Morehouse College and West Point
President Biden will deliver a pair of commencement addresses next month as part of graduation season, the White House announced Tuesday.
Biden will speak on May 19 at Morehouse College, a historically Black college in Atlanta. Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) is among the many notable alumni from the school.
“Proud that @POTUS is the commencement speaker this year at my alma mater, @Morehouse!” Warnock posted on the social platform X.
The Biden administration has frequently touted its investments in historically Black colleges and universities, including through executive actions to advance racial equity and through funding from the American Rescue Plan.
NBC News reported some faculty members at Morehouse College have raised concerns about Biden’s planned visit and possible protests.
In addition to speaking at Morehouse, Biden is scheduled to deliver remarks at the U.S. Military Academy’s commencement ceremony on May 25. He previously spoke at West Point’s commencement ceremony as vice president in 2016.
It is an annual tradition for the president to speak at a military academy’s commencement. Biden spoke last year at the Air Force Academy and the year before at the Naval Academy.
