Trump retweets post mocking Greta Thunberg, calling her an ‘actress’

President Trump retweeted a post that mocked teen climate activist Greta Thunberg’s emotional plea to world leaders at the United Nations summit late last month and called her an “actress.”

The tweet, shared by a supporter of the president’s that goes by the username @Opinion8dKellie, took aim at a clip of Thunberg’s forceful speech during the recent U.N. General Assembly climate summit, in which she railed against world leaders for not doing enough to combat climate change.

{mosads}“This is all wrong. I shouldn’t be up here. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you!” she says in the clip.

“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth,” she continues. “How dare you!”

The Twitter user, whose bio reads, “Trump will win 2020-PERIOD,” criticized Thunberg’s remarks in a tweet shortly after her speech.

“What an actress! ‘I should be in school.’ She’s getting the best education socialism can steal,” she writes. “I won’t be held hostage by someone who just got a learner’s permit. Sorry kiddo! Tell Al to try again.”

Trump retweeted the post to his 65 million followers on Thursday morning, writing: “Keep up the great work Kellie!”

The tweet comes weeks after the president faced backlash for appearing to mock the 16-year-old activist in a tweet late last month.

“She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!” Trump said in a tweet that also featured a similar clip of Thunberg’s remark from the U.N. summit.

Thunberg later captured headlines after she updated her Twitter bio to include language from the apparent dig by Trump.

At the time, she changed her bio to read, “A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future.”
