Senate Democrats unveil Roe reversal anniversary ad blitz

Senate Democrats on Monday released a series of ads targeting GOP Senate candidates’ records on reproductive rights in the wake of the second anniversary of the Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.

Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC)’s new ad blitz is slated to reach voters in 10 states on lifestyle, beauty and fashion and recipe websites, including cosmopolitan.com, thepioneerwoman.com, wellplated.com and harpersbazaar.com.

The ads direct voters to the DSCC’s website dedicated to targeting GOP Senate candidates and their stance on abortion and reproductive treatments.

One of the ads states, “URGENT NOTICE Your: → Rights → Freedoms → Health Are at RISK. Visit GOPonAbortion.com.”

“A Senate candidate in YOUR state threatens your rights. Visit GOPonAbortion.com,” another ad stated.

Monday marked the second anniversary of the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, which eliminated the 1973 precedent granting the constitutional right to abortion.

The nation’s high court granted states authority to limit or ban abortion procedures, and in the months that followed, several Republican-led states moved to pass legislation restricting or prohibiting residents’ access to the procedure.

A total of 14 states have stopped nearly all abortion services, while three states have six-week bans, according to a tally from ABC News.

“Senate Republicans have spent years using every tool they have to take away women’s right to make our own health care decisions,” DSCC spokesperson Annie Lentz said in a statement.

The anniversary of the Republican Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade underscores the stakes of this year’s Senate elections and the importance of protecting Democrats’ Senate majority with the power to confirm or deny Supreme Court justices,” Lentz added.

Democrats have made abortion a key election issue ahead of November.

DSCC Chair Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.), said in a statement Monday that “every Republican Senate candidate poses a threat to women’s freedoms, rights and health.”
