Trump mocks Lisa Page, Peter Strzok in wake of IG report
President Trump mocked former FBI agent Peter Strzok and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page, two frequent targets, at a Hershey, Pa., rally Tuesday evening shortly after the release of a long-awaited Justice Department inspector general report.
Trump described Page and Strzok as “so in love [they] didn’t know what was happening” and baselessly claimed Page had filed a restraining order against Strzok, adding “that’s what I heard, I don’t know if it’s true.”
{mosads}“Lisa, I hope you miss him. Lisa, he’ll never be the same,” Trump added.
The comments came the same day that Page sued the Justice Department and FBI, alleging they unlawfully leaked her electronic communications with Strzok in violation of her privacy. This, the lawsuit claimed, led directly to Trump’s targeting of her.
“I take little joy in having done so,” Page tweeted Tuesday afternoon in reference to the lawsuit. “But what they did in leaking my messages to the press was not only wrong, it was illegal.”
Messages between Strzok and Page critical of Trump have been a central part of his claim that the DOJ investigation into his campaign was politically motivated.
The IG report, released Monday, took issue with the application process for surveilling former Trump campaign advisor Carter Page, but found bias did not motivate the investigation and that it was properly predicated.
