Ilhan Omar responds to ‘Conservative Squad’: ‘Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery’

Freshman Rep. Illhan Omar (D-Minn.) responded Thursday to a group of Republican congressional candidates who have formed a “Conservative Squad” to rival “The Squad,” a group comprised of Omar and other progressive Democrats, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,” Omar tweeted Thursday. Inside her tweet, the progressive congresswoman had embedded a tweet from Justice Democrats, the political advocacy group that helped Ocasio-Cortez get elected.

The group had tweeted out a video of the “Conservative Squad,” which was formed by Alabama congressional candidate Jessica Taylor.

In addition to Taylor, the “Conservative Squad” is made up of three other congressional candidates: Michelle Fischbach running in Minnesota, Nancy Mace in South Carolina and Beth Van Duyne in Texas.
While on Fox News, Fischbach said the “Conservative Squad” is “about bringing the conservative message to the people of the United States,”
Mace added: “We see so many women across the country right now, Republican women, who are picking up the mantle and want to serve.”
The original “Squad” refers to Omar, Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.). The group of progressive, women of color lawmakers was formed after all four were elected to Congress in 2018.
