RNC plays rap video featuring Amber Rose after her speech

The GOP has found a new way to try to reach voters of color: a rap music video featuring reality star Amber Rose.

In the video, which dropped earlier this month and was played at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wis., on Tuesday, rapper Forgiato Blow sings to the tune of “Ice, Ice Baby.”

“We voting Donald Trump, baby. America needs saving,” Blow raps in front of what appears to be a Tesla Cybertruck wrapped in pro-Trump posters.

“Black, white and Brown all voting Trump,” Blow continues. Rose, wearing a gold Make America Great Again chain, dances next to him.

The model, who was only lip-synching in the video, spoke at the convention on Monday, offering a robust endorsement of the former president.

“I realized Donald Trump and his supporters don’t care if you’re Black, white, gay or straight, it’s all love,” Rose said. “And that’s when it hit me: These are my people. This is where I belong.”

The video appears to be a new attempt by the Trump campaign to reach voters of color ahead of November. Trump has been hoping to pull Black voter support from President Biden, whom many say cannot win without the Black vote.

Still, while the video received applause on the floor of the convention on Tuesday, it does not seem to be resonating with some Black Americans.

Former South Carolina state Rep. Bakari Sellers (D) posted the video on the social platform X and said, “This is what the RNC thinks of Black voters.”

Former candidate for Florida state Senate Mike Harvey said the GOP should issue an apology for “that farce.”

“Being black means hillbilly hip hop?” Harvey posted on X, adding that the GOP was “making memes” about the Black experience.

Other social media users made more lighthearted comments, with some calling the video “embarrassing” and others saying they need bandages for their ears.
