Democrats demand you celebrate Kamala Harris for precisely what doesn’t matter

To say Democrats send contradictory messages is an understatement of epic proportions. They are the party of “choice,” but only if that choice is abortion. If you want to send your child to a better school, forget it. And they can’t explain what a woman is, but they suddenly become gynecologists when the topic shifts to abortion.

Come to think of it, an awful lot of what Democrats focus on revolves around abortion. The remainder seems centered on divisive racial identity politics. As they see it, one’s race is not just a skin-deep characteristic, but (as long as you’re not white, apparently) an actual accomplishment.

As soon at Democrats had ditched their old white male candidate and were herded into blindly supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, they suddenly started congratulating themselves on choosing a “diverse” nominee.

Incidentally, Merriam-Webster defines the word “diverse” as “differing from one another” and “composed of distinct or unlike elements or qualities.” The adjective works only with plural or collective nouns. So populations can be diverse, but individuals cannot be “diverse” except in contrast to others.

Still, Democrats pat themselves on the back over having a “diverse” presumptive nominee. And don’t you dare show anything but adulation. As an obviously fake, AI-generated Harris put it in a humorous parody ad recently shared by Elon Musk, “I am both a woman and a person of color. So if you criticize anything I say, you’re both sexist and racist.”

“No longer was it two white men born in the 1940s facing off — again — for who should return to the White House,” NBC News wrote. “Instead, it’s between Trump, a man who is 78, against Harris, who is 59 and would make history as the first woman and first woman of color to be president if she is elected. And within a day, Harris was already facing attacks that centered on her race and gender, making it clear that while Republicans may try to tie her to some of Biden’s policies, she will face criticisms he never did.”

What exactly were the “attacks?” They weren’t actual attacks on Harris for not being a white man. Rather, the “attacks” were just people noticing how ridiculous Democrats looked for congratulating themselves over their presumptive nominee’s skin color.

Their self back-patting raises the same problems as Biden’s promise to pick a female running mate and then a black female Supreme Court justice. How can it be fine — praiseworthy, even — to pick someone based on superficial characteristics, yet problematic when other people point out what you did?

Democrats had a problem with Biden as their nominee. Now they have another problem. Harris has no record of accomplishments to celebrate. So they have to celebrate her for something she had nothing to do with — for being born “diverse.”

Merit didn’t play much of a role in her early career, either. She got her start as a prosecutor in San Francisco from her boyfriend, the city’s mayor. As attorney general of California, she chose “to keep the debate over criminal justice reform at arm’s length,” according to Politico — even in a woke state like California, why take political risks? Her record in that job is generally unflattering for reasons that have little to do with ideology.

As senator, Harris authored zero pieces of legislation that became law. She was known for “interrogating” judicial nominees who went on to be confirmed anyway. The high-point of her Senate career might have been when she falsely accused now-Justice Brett Kavanaugh of holding improper meetings with Trump-linked lawyers about the Mueller investigation. People only forget about her dead-end allegation, and her false assurances to journalists that she had evidence to back it up, because more salacious allegations were raised against Kavanaugh shortly thereafter.

As vice president, Harris is the person Biden puts in charge when he doesn’t take an issue seriously. Immigration? Better call Kamala!

She brings so little substance to the table that Democrats are sensitive about any discussion of how she got where she is. Witness how desperately they are trying to rewrite her record. Until about 15 minutes ago, she was the so-called “border czar” with real grown-up responsibilities. Now, suddenly, we’re supposed to pretend that the video of Biden putting her in charge of immigration was concocted by some Russian hacker. They are also working furiously to explain away her support for defunding the police and for soliciting online donations (to this day she hasn’t even deleted the tweet) for a left-wing non-profit that helped bail out murderers and sex offenders in Minnesota.

I get why politicians lie and spin about what they’ve done and said. I don’t get why so-called journalists would repudiate their own previous reporting that contradicts the current pro-Harris narrative. Even prostitutes have more self-respect than that.

Democrats demand that you celebrate Harris for precisely what she had no control over, but ignore whatever she has actually said and done (or not done). If you point out how she is being celebrated for being “diverse” precisely because she has no accomplishments to celebrate, you are definitely a racist and a sexist.

I’m tempted to say that the Democrats can’t have it both ways. But with Harris as their nominee, they don’t really have a choice.
