Carville says Harris is more likely to win by larger margin than Trump

Democratic strategist James Carville said Tuesday that Vice President Harris is more likely than former President Trump to win November’s election by a substantial margin.

Carville told MSNBC’s Ari Melber on Tuesday that while he could see Trump narrowly winning the election, if someone wins by more than a “little bit,” it would be the Democrats.

“I hate to make predictions, but I will say this right now: There’s a better chance that Harris wins by 5 than Trump wins by 1.5,” he said.

While Carville expressed optimism regarding Harris’s campaign Tuesday, he has cautioned that she will be “slaughtered” by attacks and urged Democrats to “be ready.” He also said last month that the “excitement” around Harris must be tempered with “realism.”

He reiterated Tuesday that he was “not predicting” the outcome of the race.

“I could see him winning by a little bit. But if somebody is going to win this by more than a little bit, it’ll be the Democrats,” Carville said.

Since launching her campaign last month after President Biden withdrew from the race, Harris has gained momentum across national and swing-state polling. According to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s national polling average, Harris has a 1.4 percentage point lead over Trump based on 114 polls.

A new survey from the Cook Political Report shows Harris leading or tied with Trump in six of the seven battleground states polled. Overall, she has a 1-point lead over Trump in the seven swing states.
