Young Turks founder: Warren ‘clearly won the debate’

The Young Turks founder Cenk Uygur said Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) “clearly won” Wednesday night’s Democratic debate after she made pointed attacks at former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who was making his debut in a Democratic primary debate.

“Elizabeth Warren came with a two-by-four — she crushed, clearly won the debate,” Uygur said on Hill.TV’s Rising Thursday.

Uygur noted a particularly weak response from Bloomberg, a multi-billionaire running a self-funded campaign.

Warren brought up issues regarding nondisclosure agreements he has signed with former female employees.

Other candidates brought up his stop-and-frisk policies as New York mayor and his comments on housing policy for low-income buyers.

“Mike Bloomberg’s campaign might have ended last night,” Uygur added. “Man, they obliterated him — Warren was the toughest on him but Sanders, Biden, everybody did a pile on and he looked woefully underprepared. Apparently, $60 billion can’t buy you a clue.”

Bloomberg has spent more on advertising than some candidates have raised entirely — all from his own personal funds.

“It’s because he thinks these debates don’t matter. He thinks, instead of buying $100 million in ads next week, he’ll buy $200,000 in ads and it’ll make up for these debates,” Uyger said. “I don’t think that’s true because the presidential debates have too much free media. But if he was running for a congressional seat or a Senate seat that would really work and that’s a really depressing state of affairs for a so-called democracy.”

Uyger said although Warren out-performed the rest of the candidates, all signs indicated Sanders is in the lead.

“Warren might have won the debate but I think Sanders won the nomination last night,” he said
