In NC poll, Robinson trails by 14 points with 18 percent undecided in governor’s race

North Carolina GOP gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson is trailing his Democratic challenger, North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein, by 14 points, but many voters are still undecided, according to a new survey.

A High Point University/SurveyUSA poll, published Thursday, found Stein received 48 percent support among voters in the battleground state. Robinson received 34 percent and 18 percent of respondents said they were undecided.

Robinson currently serves as the Tar Heel State’s lieutenant governor.

In the past, he has made controversial statements about reproductive rights. He regularly said abortion was “murder” and “genocide.” In a 2021 speech, he said women who receive abortions are murderers.

Earlier this month, he appeared to change his stance on the issue after releasing a new ad that outlined his wife’s own abortion story.

According to state campaign filings from July, Stein reported raising $13.8 million in the second quarter of fundraising for this year. Robinson raised $5.1 million.

According to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ‘s polling index, Stein leads with 46.2 percent support compared to Robinson’s 36.8 percent.

The same North Carolina survey found that Vice President Harris holds a razor-thin lead, just 1 percentage point, over former President Trump — 46 percent to 45 percent.

Recently, election forecaster Sabato’s Crystal Ball moved North Carolina from “leans Republican” to “toss-up,” as support for Harris builds.

The High Point survey was conducted Aug. 19-21 among 1,053 North Carolina registered voters and has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
