Author: Sanders policies mirror FDR’s

Harvey Kaye, author of “Take Hold of Our History: Make American Radical Again,” said on Hill TV’s “Rising” Tuesday morning that 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) progressive policy approach mirrors that of former President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

“I was really, really excited when in this particular campaign Bernie made a point of linking his aspirations to those of Franklin Roosevelt,” he said.

“You see New Deal become Green New Deal, you saw the Economic Bill of Rights become the 21st century economic bill of rights,” he said. “We saw so much of what’s FDR’s legacy and promise … coming out in the Bernie Sanders campaign.”

Kaye added that Sanders should seize the opportunity to capitalize on his resemblance to FDR in his next debate with former Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday.

“What Bernie Sanders should have been doing, and if we get through today, should be doing it all the more aggressively,” he said. “If he has that national audience, take that role of history teacher-in-chief.”

Biden and Sanders are the only two major White House contenders left in the Democratic primary. The former vice president has seized the momentum with victories in South Carolina and on Super Tuesday.

Six states hold their primaries on Tuesday, including Michigan and Washington.
