President Trump canceled events scheduled for this week in Nevada and Colorado due to the coronavirus, the White House announced Wednesday.

“Out of an abundance of caution from the Coronavirus outbreak, the President has decided to cancel his upcoming events in Colorado and Nevada,” White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement.

The president was scheduled to fly to Nevada on Thursday to attend a fundraiser and speak at Saturday’s Republican Jewish Coalition conference in Las Vegas. He was expected to stop in Denver on Friday.

The decision reflects the latest guidance from public health officials, who have cautioned against attending large gatherings, particularly for those who are elderly or have underlying conditions that would make them more vulnerable to the coronavirus. A number of large events have been canceled or postponed as a result.

The NBA on Wednesday night suspended its season after a Utah Jazz player tested positive for the coronavirus.

The organizers of South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, canceled the annual gathering of entertainers and entrepreneurs, and the NCAA said it would hold its basketball tournaments without spectators.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and former Vice President Joe Biden both canceled their respective campaign rallies in Ohio scheduled for Tuesday night, citing concerns about the coronavirus. Each campaign has said it will monitor the latest guidance from health officials when planning events moving forward.

The Trump campaign does not currently have any rallies scheduled.

Trump, an admitted germaphobe, has shaken hands in recent days with multiple officials who have since gone into self-imposed quarantine after coming into contact with an individual with the virus.

Trump on Wednesday night delivered an Oval Office address to the nation on the coronavirus, which has continued to spread across the country. Trump announced travel restrictions on Europe and targeted financial relief for individuals and businesses hardest hit by the virus.
