Biden to Kimmel on Phillies cap: ‘It’s the way to be able to sleep with my wife’

Democratic presidential front-runner Joe Biden joked on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Thursday night that he only wears a Philadelphia Phillies hat as a “way to be able to sleep with my wife.”

The former vice president and Kimmel both wore baseball hats to mark what would have been the start of MLB’s 2020 season.

“This is not the way to win votes, Mr. Vice President,” the Brooklyn-born Kimmel joked on his ABC show while wearing a New York Mets hat.

“But it’s the way to be able to sleep with my wife,” Biden deadpanned. “She’s a Philly girl. If I weren’t into the Phillies I’d be out of luck, man.”

MLB has delayed the start of its season until at least June as the league continues to weigh several scenarios on how to move forward with months shaved off its traditional schedule.

Included in the options are seven-inning doubleheaders and expanding the postseason from 10 to 14 teams.

“It’s probably for the best,” Kimmel said of the delay. “I don’t know that I could handle the coronavirus and the Mets at the same time.”
