First coronavirus death reported in Syria

The World Health Organization on Sunday confirmed Syria’s first coronavirus-related.

Syria’s health ministry reportedly said a woman who had died after being rushed to a hospital was found to have been infected by coronavirus, Reuters reports. 

Syria confirmed its cases rose to nine, but according to Reuters, medics and witnesses have said there are many more than the nine confirmed cases and warned that the country is at high risk of a major outbreak. 

Globally, there are more than 685,623 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and more than 32,000 deaths, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
