Juanita Broaddrick, a nursing home administrator who accused former President Clinton of raping her when he was Arkansas’s attorney general, told Hill.TV’s “Rising” on Monday that she thinks the news media’s coverage of sexual assault allegations has evolved during the #MeToo era.
During an interview, Broaddrick said that the media climate she faced in 1999 was markedly different when she accused Clinton of raping her, telling Hill.TV that she faced downright hostility in the press.
“It’s so different, because there wasn’t a #MeToo,” Broaddrick said of the current media climate, comparing it to her own experience. “The media were horrible about me, when I first came forward.”
Broaddrick went on to add, however, that there were some similarities between her decision to come forward and the current allegations being faced by former Vice President Joe Biden (D).
Biden has been accused by a former Senate staffer, Tara Reade, of sexual assault, an allegation which he has denied.
“Now you have the very same thing going on with Biden,” Broaddrick said. “He’s getting the support from the feminist groups … just like Clinton did.”
