Meghan McCain slams Cuomo, de Blasio as ‘an utter disgrace’ following another night of unrest in NYC

“The View” host Meghan McCain slammed New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) on Tuesday, calling them “an utter disgrace” following another night of unrest and protests in the city against the killing of George Floyd. 

The two New York leaders issued an 11 p.m. curfew in New York City on Monday, which did little to stop the chaos as dozens of stores were looted and vandalized primarily in midtown and lower Manhattan.

“My neighborhood in Manhattan is eviscerated and looks like a war zone. DeBlasio and Cuomo are an utter disgrace. This is not America,” she wrote on Twitter to her more than 740,000 followers.

“Our leaders have abandoned us and continue to let great American cities burn to the ground and be destroyed. I never could have fathomed this,” she added.

New York City will impose an 8 p.m. curfew Tuesday ahead of an 8:22 p.m. sunset.

The governor also slammed de Blasio and the New York Police Department during his Tuesday press conference for not doing their jobs, calling the performance “a disgrace.”

“I believe the mayor underestimates the scope of the problem,” Cuomo added. “I think he underestimates the duration of the problem. And I don’t think they’ve used enough police to address the situation because it’s inarguable … that it was not addressed last night.”

“My option is to displace the mayor of New York City and bring in the National Guard as the governor in a state of emergency and basically take over — you would have to take over the mayor’s job,” he also said.

“I don’t think we’re at that point,” he continued. “That would be such a chaotic situation in the midst of an already chaotic situation.”

Floyd, an unarmed 46-year-old black man, died while in police custody in Minneapolis.

Bystander video that surfaced of the arrest shows a police officer kneeling on Floyd’s neck. Floyd pleaded for air saying that he could not breathe, but the officer did not remove his knee. 

The officer has been fired and charged in Floyd’s death.

Following the footage of Floyd’s killing, protests have erupted in many major cities in recent nights, including New York, Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas and Los Angeles.
