American Resilience: The Future of Small Business

Small businesses are fundamental to the idea of America. Often deemed the engine of the economy, they are essential to the financial health of the nation.

In these trying times – as customers stay home and small business owners attempt to stay afloat – the $660 billion Paycheck Protection Program has shown uneven results. With about $120 million in funds still to be claimed, what steps should be taken to ensure that businesses that really need the help are receiving aid, particularly minority-owned businesses that are often overlooked?

And after the program ends, what additional stimulus initiatives will be needed to keep firms healthy and ready to reopen fully on the other side of the pandemic?

The Hill convened policymakers and small business leaders for a virtual event discussing public and private efforts to support America’s entrepreneurs.
