Latino PAC debuts ad with Democratic convention standout Kristin Urquiza

Nuestro PAC, a group dedicated to turning out the Latino vote, released a new ad Tuesday featuring Kristin Urquiza, the Democratic National Convention speaker who Monday night gave a moving retelling of her late father’s fight with COVID-19.

In the ad, backed by a six-figure investment, Urquiza expands on the story of her father’s death, detailing how Mark Urquiza died in an ICU ward with a nurse at his side.

“His death is due to the carelessness of Donald Trump and the politicians who continue to jeopardize our health through a clear lack of leadership,” Kristin Urquiza says in the ad.

Urquiza’s speech on the opening night of the virtual convention was one of the highlights of the evening.

In her speech, Urquiza recounted how her father had voted for Trump and in late May attended a karaoke bar after the stay-at-home order was lifted in Arizona.

Mark Urquiza fell ill weeks later and ultimately died in the hospital of COVID-19.

“My dad was a healthy 65-year-old,” Kristin Urquiza said in her speech. “His only preexisting condition was trusting Donald Trump and for that, he paid with his life.”

Urquiza first shed light on her father’s story in a July obituary where she panned Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R).

The ad is part of the Latino voter strategy run by Nuestro PAC founder Chuck Rocha, the campaign official who designed the successful Hispanic outreach campaign that propelled Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to early victories in the Democratic presidential primary.

In the ad, as in her speech, Urquiza makes a plea for voters to side with presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

“Donald Trump is unfit for the presidency,” says Urquiza. “That’s why I’m voting for Joe Biden, a real leader who will fight for the Mark Urquizas and all of us.”
