Foxx’s valentine to nonmembers trying to use House elevator: ‘You’ve been warned’

Rep. Virginia Foxx’s (R-N.C.) Valentine’s Day message to congressional staffers attempting to use the Capitol buildings’ “members only” elevators is to not even try.

Foxx has been known to chew out staff and reporters for using or being near the members-only elevators in Capitol buildings, a warning she relayed, once again, on a piece of paper that said “Roses are red – violets are blue. The Members Only elevator is off limits. You’ve been warned.”

The photo of the paper, which she shared Friday on the social platform X, was coupled with the caption “Happy Valentine’s Day.”

In late 2023, Foxx yelled at a group of journalists to “get away from the damned elevator.” As she entered the elevator, she said “Go find a place to talk.”

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), who was in the gaggle of reporters near the elevator then, said “I love Virginia, with Virginia Foxx, you know where you stand.”

Foxx also called out a staffer in 2012 after catching her and another aide riding in the “members-only” elevator.

“This is a ‘members-only’ elevator; can you read?” the lawmaker reportedly asked the aide at the time.
