Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) told Hill.TV that he’s concerned TikTok’s collection of U.S. consumer data could be used against Americans in a potential conflict with China.
“I am concerned about the information being used by the Chinese Communist Party in a future conflict with the U.S.,” said Buck, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
He added that he thinks Oracle Corp. is a trustworthy source to maintain that information and that it is better than having Chinese intelligence agencies maintaining data on Americans.
TikTok is in negotiations with California-based Oracle for a possible acquisition following President Trump’s executive order targeting TikTok, arguing that its ties to China pose a national security threat.
The Trump administration said Friday that TikTok will be removed from Apple and Google’s app stores on Sunday.
