California fire destroys famed family-owned winery

One of California’s raging wildfires has destroyed a famed family-owned winery, one of a handful left in the area. 

The 41-year-old Chateau Boswell Winery located in Napa Valley was consumed by the Glass Fire on Sunday evening, CBS San Francisco Bay Area reported. 

The private family-owned winery in St. Helena stood along the Silverado Trail, which was under mandatory evacuation Sunday as firefighters attempted to prevent the fast-growing fire from jumping it. 

The Glass Fire, which has reached 11,000 acres in Napa County, was 0 percent contained as of Monday morning, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire).

ABC7 reporter Amy Hollyfield posted the aftermath of the fire’s destruction of the winery on Twitter Monday morning.

The fire ended up jumping the Silverado Trail at about 10 p.m. Sunday. Two other fires also erupted in the area on Sunday, the Boysen Fire and the Shady Fire, according to Cal Fire.

The Black Rock Inn, also in St. Helena, was ravaged by the fire, its former owner Jeff Orlik told CNN.

Sunday’s fires were not related to the Lightning Complex, which was 98 percent contained as of last week, after covering 363,220 acres. 

California fires have caused tens of thousands of people to evacuate in Napa and Sonoma counties, according to CNN.
