Justice Department to sue Google: reports

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is set to file its long-anticipated antitrust lawsuit against Google on Tuesday, multiple outlets have reported.

The case will charge the Silicon Valley giant with holding an illegal monopoly over search and search advertising, The Washington Post and The New York Times reported.

Attorney General William Barr has reportedly played a large role in the case, pushing for an early filing.

The lawsuit is expected to only be signed onto by Republican state attorneys general, according to the Post. Other AGs could choose to join the case later or spin off their own challenges to Google.

The investigation leading up to Tuesday’s DOJ action was launched last summer, probing Big Tech’s market position.

Neither the DOJ nor Google responded to requests for comment on the reports.
