Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Nev.) shakes hands with incoming Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.) during a press conference on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 to discuss the CBC priorities for the 119th session of Congress with members of the new Executive Board.

Democrats in both chambers of Congress railed against executive actions from the Trump administration that target social programs such as Social Security and Medicaid.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) — who has been under scrutiny for his decision last month to advance a GOP-backed continuing resolution to keep the government open — will pair up with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) to speak out against mass layoffs, including at the Social Security Administration, and President Trump’s sweeping agenda.

Schumer’s remarks were scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EDT.

Later Tuesday, the Congressional Black Caucus and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) are also expected to speak against administration moves to cut the federal workforce and reduce federal spending. The events were slated to be held at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. EDT, respectively.
