Chris Wallace: Democrats ‘would need a blue wave’ to take back Senate

Fox News’s Chris Wallace said the Democratic Party “would need a blue wave” on Election Day to gain control of the Senate, where the GOP currently holds a 53-47 majority.

Races in Maine, Iowa and North Carolina are all closely contested, and the results of those races will probably decide the Senate majority.

Democrats need to gain three seats and the White House to take the majority.

“You would need a blue wave,” Wallace told “America’s Newsroom” on Friday morning. “You would need all of the races that are too close to call right now going Democratic for them to take control of the Senate. That could happen. It has happened in some presidential elections. But it’s certainly no sure thing.”

Democrats are expected to lose Sen. Doug Jones’s (D-Ala.) seat. 

Two GOP-held seats in Colorado and Arizona are labeled as “lean Democrat” by the Cook Political Report.

Seven other GOP seats in Maine, Iowa, North Carolina, Montana, South Carolina and two seats in Georgia are seen as toss-ups.

Anchor Sandra Smith pointed out that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) recently called control of the Senate a “50/50 proposition,” which Wallace agreed with.

“I think 50/50 is a pretty honest description of the odds at this point,” Wallace said. “Which means there’s as good a chance that the Democrats are going to take control of the Senate as that the Republicans will maintain control.”
