Mary Trump to release second book on ‘America’s national trauma,’ impact of uncle’s ‘corrupt and immoral policies’
President Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, is set to release a second book that will “examine America’s national trauma” and her uncle’s “corrupt and immoral policies.”
Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist, will release “The Reckoning” on July 20.
Trump earlier this year released a tell-all memoir about the Trump family and the president. “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man” sold more than 950,000 copies in pre-orders and first-day sales on July 14.
The president’s late brother Robert Trump filed an unsuccessful lawsuit ahead of the book’s release that alleged Mary Trump was violating a nondisclosure agreement signed during the settlement of Fred Trump Sr.’s estate and attempted to prevent its publication.
Mary Trump followed up her book with the release of audio recordings in which President Trump’s older sister, a retired federal judge, said her brother “has no principles.”
Mary Trump has since emerged as a prominent critic of the Trump administration. In September, she sued the president, his sister and late brother over allegations they committed fraud in order to deprive her of her interests in the Trump family business and enrich themselves.
The president has dismissed his niece as “unstable” and a “mess.”
The new book will examine how issues “rooted in our history but dramatically exacerbated by the impact of current events and the Trump administration’s corrupt and immoral policies,” according to a description from publisher St. Martin’s Press.
“Our failure to acknowledge this trauma, let alone root it out, has allowed it to metastasize,” the description reads. “Whether it manifests itself in rising levels of rage and hatred, or hopelessness and apathy, the stress of living in a country we no longer recognize has affected all of us. America is suffering from PTSD—a new leader alone cannot fix us.”
Mary Trump holds a Ph.D. from the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies and taught graduate courses in trauma, psychopathology and developmental psychology, according to her bio.
She announced her second book on Tuesday to her more than 826,000 Twitter followers.
