Conservative group head: Trump administration failed at coordinating ‘consistent agenda’

Oren Cass, executive director of the conservative think tank American Compass, said Thursday that competing agendas and a lack of a coordinated policy approach hindered the Trump administration over the last four years.

Cass reflected on President Trump’s time in office during an appearance on Hill.TV’s “Rising,” saying that while the “American public imagines the president kind of doing what he wants to do” a presidential administration should be analyzed by the ability to coordinate policy across agencies.

“There are thousands and thousands of people and they all have to be rowing in the same direction if you’re going to get anywhere,” he explained.

“I think that was really compounded in this administration by the president and his failure to really kind of have a consistent agenda and focus, to make sure he chose the right people,” Cass continued. “And then as a result, I think you had an administration where successes and failures really were completely dependent on the particular people in the particular agency.”

The conservative think tank head then added that members of the Trump administration “just weren’t on the same page and a lot of people were advancing their own agendas, and at the end of the day a lot of people were opposed to the president’s own agenda and actively pushing against it.”
