At least one person was shot Wednesday when a mob stormed the Capitol to protest congressional certification of the Electoral College results, according to multiple reports.

ABC News reported that a woman was shot inside the Capitol and seriously injured. Her identity was not immediately known.

Several others were injured in the violent demonstrations, NBC News reported.

At least five people have been hospitalized, including one law enforcement officer, D.C. emergency medical services told the outlet.

Rioters spread in the Capitol building shortly after 2 p.m., with some entering the Senate chamber and galleries after senators were evacuated. One protester stood on the dais in the Senate and yelled: “Trump won that election!”

House lawmakers were moved off of the chamber floor amid the chaos.

Law enforcement were seen with weapons drawn inside the House chamber, appearing to point them at violent demonstrators in an adjacent room. Officials also barricaded the doors.

The D.C. National Guard was mobilized Wednesday afternoon to help restore order to the Capitol building.

Thousands of pro-Trump demonstrators gathered in the nation’s capital earlier Wednesday to protest the election results. President Trump addressed the crowd at the Ellipse just outside the White House.
