Springsteen ad for Jeep pulled from YouTube after reported DWI

Jeep’s Super Bowl ad featuring Bruce Springsteen has been pulled from YouTube after news broke of the musician’s November arrest on charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI).

TMZ on Monday morning first reported the arrest, which occurred at New Jersey’s Gateway National Recreation Area. As of Wednesday afternoon, the video is no longer available on the video platform and has apparently been set to private by the company. It remains on Springsteen’s Instagram profile as of Wednesday evening.

“It would be inappropriate for us to comment on the details of a matter we have only read about and we cannot substantiate,” a Jeep spokesperson told The Hill in a statement. “But it’s also right that we pause our Big Game commercial until the actual facts can be established. Its message of community and unity is as relevant as ever. As is the message that drinking and driving can never be condoned.”

The commercial, Springsteen’s first, featured the Grammy and Academy Award winner narrating footage taken in Kansas, at the geographic center of the U.S., while urging national unity.

“We need the middle,” he said in the TV spot. “We just have to remember the very soil we stand on is common ground.”

Springsteen was arrested on charges of DWI, reckless driving and consuming alcohol in a closed area. Brenda Ling, a spokeswoman for Gateway, said in a statement that Springsteen was “cooperative throughout the process.”

The Asbury Park Press reported later Wednesday that a source said Springsteen’s blood-alcohol content was just 0.02, a quarter of New Jersey’s legal limit, calling into question why he was charged.
