Texas trooper shot while pursuing suspected gunman from cabinet store shooting

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was shot on Thursday in Grimes County while pursuing a suspect from an earlier shooting that left one dead and several wounded.

“A DPS Trooper was shot while pursuing an individual suspected of being involved in the shooting in Bryan. He remains in serious but stable condition,” Texas DPS tweeted.

Grimes County is about 30 miles from Bryan.

Police said the shooting in Bryan occurred at Kent Moore Cabinets and the suspect, who is now in custody, is a store employee.

Police have not released the name of the trooper or the alleged gunman, but have said a handgun was used in the shooting. There is no known motive at this time.

Authorities said there were seven victims in the store shooting: one was killed; four are in critical condition; one suffered a minor injury; and one went to the hospital for asthma-related issues.

The Hill has reached out to the Texas Department of Public Safety for comment.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) released a statement saying he has been working with law enforcement and offered prayers for the victims of the shooting.
