Warren says she’ll run for reelection to Senate

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) says she will run for reelection in 2024.

In an interview with Politico on Friday, Warren, when asked if she planned to run for reelection, responded, “Yep.”

The senator, who will turn 72 years old next month, was first elected to the upper chamber in 2012 and has since emerged as a key member of the Democratic caucus, especially in its growing progressive wing.

After unsuccessfully running for president in 2020, Warren was a contender to become then-Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s running mate. Then-Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) ultimately joined Biden on the ticket.

Afterward, Warren made a push to become Biden’s Treasury secretary and was a favorite among progressives. The post, however, went to former Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen.

Politico noted that Warren’s decision to run for another term comes as a handful of prominent Massachusetts Democrats have been eyeing a run for Senate, including Rep. Ayanna Pressley and former Rep. Joe Kennedy III.

Warren made the remarks in an interview with Politico that largely focused on her new book, “Persist.”
