Judge Judy on expanding Supreme Court: ‘It’s a dumb idea’

Judith Sheindlin, known more commonly as Judge Judy, said Thursday that the idea of expanding the U.S. Supreme Court was “dumb.”

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the daytime TV personality opined about a number of hot-button issues. Among them was the topic of Supreme Court expansion.

In her exchange with the outlet’s Mikey O’Connell, Sheindlin blasted the idea.

“It’s a dumb idea,” she said. “We’ve worked brilliantly in this country with the Supreme Court exactly the way it is.”

In April, a group of Democrats introduced the Judiciary Act of 2021, which would add four seats to the Supreme Court for a total of 13 seats.

The legislation was passed months after former President Trump appointed Justice Amy Coney Barrett to the high court following the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Barrett’s appointment gave conservatives a “super majority” on the Supreme Court.

“Changing it makes absolutely no sense to me, except politically,” said Sheindlin, who became famous as a no-nonsense TV personality on her hit show “Judge Judy.”

Sheindlin said that the biggest flaw in the country’s justice system isn’t a Supreme Court issue, but rather the speed at which cases move. She also applauded the swift verdict in the Derek Chauvin murder trial, which came to a close last month.

“The media wasn’t going to allow any delay, and rightfully so,” Sheindlin told the Reporter. “The country wanted a resolution.”

She added, “I like to see things tied up in a bow. Perhaps that’s the reason for ending the show after 25 years.”

Sheindlin ended “Judge Judy” after over two decades, but will continue to grace viewers television screens. According to the Reporter, Sheindlin is working on a show entitled “Judy Justice” on IMDB TV.

The “Judge Judy” star taped the final episodes of her long-running court show in April.
