Watch: House Democrats speak on Day 8 of government shutdown

NOW PLAYING

House Democratic leaders will speak with reporters Wednesday afternoon after their Senate counterparts blocked the GOP-led stopgap funding bill to reopen the government for the sixth time.

Democrats have thus far held firm on their demands for health care concessions to be included in any funding bill. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) rejected a short-term extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies Tuesday and earlier this week dismissed President Trump’s suggestion that the health tax credits, which expire at the end of the year, could be looked into at a later date.

The New York Democrat has also pushed back on Trump’s suggestion that furloughed federal employees may not receive back pay.

The press conference is scheduled to begin at noon EDT.
