Unvaccinated Russians will have limited work options, Kremlin says
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday said that Russians who do not get COVID-19 vaccinations will have limited work options.
“The reality is such that discrimination will inevitably set in. People without vaccination or immunity will not be able to work everywhere. It is not possible. It will pose a threat to those around them,” Peskov said, Reuters reported.
The warning comes as Russia is experiencing a surge in coronavirus cases and officials complain of a slow vaccine rollout.
The country had over 500 deaths on Tuesday from the virus, the most in one day since February, according to Reuters.
The mayor of Moscow said last week there was a new variant of the virus hitting the city.
“It’s more aggressive, it’s harder to recover from, it spreads faster. It’s much more likely to penetrate a person’s immune system,” Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said.
He also complained of a slow vaccine rollout in the city.
“We continue getting sick, people keep dying, but they don’t want to get vaccinated,” Sobyanin said. “The percentage of those vaccinated in Moscow is lower than in any European city.”
Russia has four vaccines that were made in the country on the market for its citizens.
