Singer and bassist Mark Hoppus on Wednesday announced via social media that he was diagnosed with cancer.
“I have cancer. It sucks and I’m scared, and at the same time I’m blessed with incredible doctors and family and friends to get me through this,” Hoppus tweeted. “I still have months of treatment ahead of me but I’m trying to remain hopeful and positive. Can’t wait to be cancer free and see you all at a concert in the near future.”
The 49-year-old Blink-182 frontman didn’t reveal what type of cancer he has, but he did say that he had already been undergoing chemotherapy treatments for three months.
Hoppus also shared a photo on his Instagram story that read, “Yes hello. One cancer treatment please.”

Longtime bandmate drummer Travis Barker shared a photo of the two embracing on his Instagram story. Barker later told E! News, “Mark is my brother and I love and support him. I will be with him every step of the way on stage and off and can’t wait for us to play together again soon.”
In response to the news, Hoppus’s current and former bandmates, fellow musicians and a slew of celebrities and fans voiced their support for him.
